Writing Instruction:
Expository and Narrative
The Orton-Gillingham methodology is instrumental in developing successful readers, writers, and spellers through a multi-sensory approach to learning where the focus is on phonemic awareness, decoding, automaticity, fluency, comprehension and the development of new vocabulary.
There are multiple advantages to having your child tutored. The relationship between tutor and student allows for a safe, comfortable and productive environment, where students acquire confidence and proficiency. Students feel empowered to take risks and enjoy their successes. My mission is to design an individual program of action, engaging students in their learning while fostering independence.
I have been in the field of education for over twenty years, increasingly devoting my energy to teaching students with learning disorders. I have an M.Ed. from Lesley University, located in Cambridge, MA
I am an Orton-Gillingham tutor. My certification is through the The Greater Boston Children's Learning Center located in Needham, MA. I have over ten years of experience guiding students through this methodology to become successful learners. I am a Literacy Specialist with advanced certification from Mass General Hospital located in Charlestown, MA. I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association(IDA) and MABIDA the Massachusetts Branch of IDA.
Kathy was a natural choice for Christopher. Her encouragement and enthusiastic manner helped Christopher to focus and produce well thought out pieces of writing. Christopher was accepted to all seven preparatory schools to which he applied. I highly recommend Kathy's services. - Liz Tosti
Dear Ms. Farrell,
I have learned so much from you like, glued sounds and 'ould' (Oh you lucky duck). I will miss you a lot because you always made the lessons fun. Paper and pencils is not the most interesting way to learn. You made lessons fun with hair gel and shaving cream! You are so nice in many ways, such as making me popcorn. Yummy! You taught me in a way I could understand.
Your friend,
Emma
